Live HDR Broadcasting Could Be Just Around The Corner

Having previously posted about getting my 4K UHD TV set up, as with all technology, things move quickly with the next step up already on the horizon.

HDR promises better colour, brightness and contrast and would have framerates above 50 or 60Hz. I understand that some content is already available on YouTube and I would have thought that the major players in streaming services are also looking very hard in to this. A new standard has been produced which should standardise the requirements.

Although the publication of this standard is a big step forward, hardware manufacturers will need to integrate the technology into their receivers and broadcasting companies will have to actually start broadcasting. However, according to DVB who produced the standard, this could happen as early as next year.

Looks like I'll soon be behind the times again.
